Clayton Utz recognises the challenges and disadvantage which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have faced and continue to face in the Australian community. In particular we recognise that the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians is unacceptable.
We have a solid tradition of providing support to Indigenous Australians through providing assistance to Indigenous organisations as part of our Community Connect program and acting for Indigenous clients as part of our Pro Bono practice.
In March 2010 we took the step of strengthening our commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by developing a Reconciliation Action Plan which formalises our commitment to reducing inequality between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and which contains targets that we hold ourselves to meeting.
Learning from the experience of our first RAP initiatives and by working in consultation with our Indigenous partners, clients and friends, in 2011 we reviewed and updated our RAP. Our second RAP encapsulates the initiatives we have implemented to date and specifies our goals and commitments for 2011/2012.
