Clayton Utz on board for North West Metro project

Sydney, 26 August 2008: National law firm Clayton Utz continues to be called upon to lend its expertise to some of the biggest infrastructure projects being undertaken around the country, with the A$12 billion North West Metro project in New South Wales its latest advisory role.

The North West Metro project will involve the design, construction, operation, maintenance and financing of a 38-kilometre underground metro-style rail system, running from Rouse Hill via Epping to the Sydney CBD and featuring 17 new train stations.

The Project is part of the Sydney Link series of projects aimed at improving transport in Sydney.

Led by Major Projects partner John Shirbin, a team from Clayton Utz will provide legal services to the NSW Government for the first three stages of the Project, which include the project definition, design and construction preparation.

Construction of the Project is expected to begin in 2010, with completion due in 2017.

Mr Shirbin said the appointment reflected Clayton Utz' major projects and infrastructure capability and was an exciting project with which to be involved . "The North West Metro is an important project for New South Wales and we look forward to working alongside the Government in helping to bring the Project to fruition," Mr Shirbin said.
